Shared Innovation, Unique Brands: Exploring Zucol’s Multi-Brand Ecosystem
Most technology companies go with one lane and stick with that lane. Zucol Services went in a different direction—they developed one operating engine and then allowed it to serve a family of unique, special-purpose brands. The company was founded in Gurugram in 2010, and since then, Zucol founder Ankush Tambi has fostered an ecosystem where the fundamentals of education technology, AI-driven automation, design, IT infrastructure and real estate advisory are shared, and the respective stakeholders showcase their own identity to the market. This blog examines this architecture, why it makes sense and what it reveals about Zucol founder Ankush Tambi's leadership philosophy.
The concept behind the one engine, many brands.
It can be costly and time-consuming to start new companies for each opportunity. Zucol's solution has been to focus on the elements and practices that do not need to be reimagined, such as engineering skill, cloud and infrastructure practices, quality processes, and operational discipline, and then have each brand specialise on a foundation of these. It is for this reason that Zucol AI, Zoice AI, Desklib, The Design Trip, Locus R.A.G.S. and Tameda Realty can appear as separate products yet function in a completely comparable tech and delivery way in the background. The portfolio is far from being confined to one vertical, as each brand was developed to respond to a market need; it cuts across academic technology, voice AI, design services, IT infrastructure and property advisory.
Desklib and Zoice AI: Specialisation Without Duplication.
The example of Desklib is a good example of the model. It's an AI-driven academic platform with digital libraries, AI-driven grading, plagiarism detection, and tailored learning routes, and it has mushroomed into a vast collection of academic materials adopted by students and institutions. With the same technology of AI and automation, Zoice AI aims at a different challenge: multilingual voice interactions at businesses with smart IVR and automated calling to help businesses manage customer conversations at scale. There was no need to create a new company from scratch for either product. Rather, the shared AI infrastructure, practices and engineering standards were expanded across two widely divergent customer journeys – one academic, one commercial – with no dilution of brand focus.
Design Trip and Locus R.A.G.S. Craft and Infrastructure Side by Side.
Not all brands at Zucol are AI-first. The Design Trip is a creative studio centred around branding, UI/UX design and front-end development for businesses that want to build digital experiences that convert and keep users. At the end of the stack, Locus R.A.G.S. is Zucol's IT services wing, developing software, managing the cloud and offering digital services to enterprise and academic clients. The combination of a design studio and infrastructure practice may seem like a curious mix in the eyes of some, but for a client needing a rebuilt interface, they are likely to also require the infrastructure and cloud-based work to go to them as well – and having it all under the same roof and communicating in the same ways reduces friction between two separate vendors.
Tameda Realty and Discipline of Staying On Brief.
Most tellingly, this is the architecture of Tameda Realty, Zucol's real estate advisory business. At first, real estate advisory doesn't seem to have much in common with AI voice platforms or academic software. When it comes to the way Tameda is run, however, the same sense of accountability, a focus on a real problem, and a willingness to execute without noise that Ankush Tambi brought to Zucol's early tech work is present. The brand is a separate entity in the market but at the same time shares the same organisational patterns, structures of reporting and culture of people that unite the rest of the group. A good indicator of any multi-brand arrangement is that the shared backbone is robust enough to make it feel like it's part of the same family, even if the brands are from different industries.
The Reason Why the Architecture Holds Together.
The connective tissue that brings all of these brands together is not a shared logo or a shared office; it's a leadership style that has influenced Zucol from its inception. Ankush Tambi has consistently been focused on trust and not micromanagement, on the right kind of curiosity and hunger to hire others, and on the right kind of people investment to grow organisations. Having 700 professionals in multiple locations across Gurugram, Jaipur, Pune, Noida, Indore and Kolkata, not to mention the professionals in the United Kingdom, Singapore and Dubai, does not guarantee uniformity of culture across the brands — it takes leadership. Zucol founder Ankush Tambi has repeatedly said that this is the true essence of Zucol's growth: to create a culture where teams across completely different products all share the same sense of responsibility and long-term thinking, and where shared technology and individual identities don't undermine each other.
