u4gm Reviews the poe1 Rathpith Globe Nerf

Player question: Is Rathpith Globe still worth using in PoE 3.29.

Yes, but it is no longer the easy answer for every spell build with a decent Life pool. The move from 5% to 3% per 100 maximum Life cuts both Spell Damage and Spell Critical Strike Chance hard. Still, a character sitting around 10,000 Life gets 300% increased damage and crit chance from one shield. That is not small. You will notice the difference when comparing gear prices with POE currency, though, because a good rare shield may now compete with Rathpith far earlier than it did before. The shield is best treated as a proper build-around piece. If your character already wants huge Life totals, it can remain excellent. If you are only reaching 5,500 or 6,000 Life, the sacrifice mechanic may feel like more trouble than the damage is worth.

Player question: What should Rathpith Globe builds change after the 3.29 nerf.

Start with your critical chance, not the tooltip damage. Lots of older Rathpith setups leaned on the shield to make low-base-crit spells feel reliable. Losing 200% or more increased critical chance can leave a build landing crits far less often than expected. You may need crit nodes, a better weapon, a crit support gem, or simply a spell with a stronger base critical chance. Hit-based builds also need more sources of real multipliers now. Gem levels, critical multiplier, exposure, resistance reduction, overlap mechanics, and skill-specific more-damage effects matter more than stacking another ordinary increased-damage modifier.

The Life sacrifice is still the part that catches people out. Rathpith takes 10% of Life whenever you use or trigger a spell, so one button press can become dangerous when it starts several automated skills. Cast when Damage Taken setups, utility triggers, and extra damage spells all need a close look. If a trigger is not doing much, cut it. Dissolution of the Flesh remains a natural partner for some versions, especially Blood Sacrament and Relic of the Pact characters, but it does not make the build invincible. Damage over time and constant incoming hits can ruin the safe window quickly.

Foulborn Rathpith Globe has the same issue for damage-over-time characters. At 10,000 Life, 300% increased Damage over Time is still useful, yet it no longer carries a build by itself. Proper Life stackers should be fine, while moderate-Life characters may prefer a shield that brings defence, gem levels, or utility. Legacy copies may matter in permanent leagues if they keep the old values, but fresh-league planning should assume the 3% version. Rathpith is now a commitment item, and spending POE chaos orbs on one makes sense only after the rest of the character can support its cost.
