Inside Zucol’s Multi-Brand Model: Where Shared Technology Meets Individual Expertise
Most tech companies choose a path and then stick with it. Zucol Services chose to construct a single operating engine and use it to drive a family of purpose-built brands. At its genesis in 2010, in Gurugram, Ankush Tambi, the founder of Zucol, built an ecosystem where education technology, AI automation, design, IT infrastructure, and real estate advisory exist on common foundations and yet have a distinct identity in the market. This blog explores how that works, why it works and the leadership philosophy of Zucol Founder Ankush Tambi.
What is the concept behind One Engine, Many Brands?
It costs a lot and takes time to establish individual companies from scratch each time. So, Zucol's solution was to standardise the elements that don't need to be redefined — engineering talent, cloud and infrastructure practices, quality processes and operational discipline — while permitting individual brands to specialise on top of that. That's why it's possible for Zucol AI, Zoice AI, Desklib, The Design Trip, Locus R.A.G.S., and Tameda Realty to appear like separate products yet share the identical engineering bench and shipment culture behind the scenes. Not all the brands were developed to extend their portfolio; they are developed to address a specific market need—that is why the brands are not all in one vertical: academic technology, voice AI, design services, IT infrastructure, and property advisory.
Specialisation Without Duplication: Desklib and Zoice AI.
Desklib is a great example of the model. It is an academic platform driven by artificial intelligence, featuring personalised learning paths, plagiarism prevention, digital libraries and AI-enhanced grading, and has become a vast repository of academic materials for students and institutions. But Zoice AI does something entirely different with the same AI and automation power: it integrates with a smart IVR and automated calling platform to assist companies in scaling customer conversations, all while providing multilingual voice interactions. There was no need to create one of the companies from scratch. Rather, common engineering principles, data and use of AI infrastructure were rolled into two very different customer experiences, one academic, one commercial, with no dilution of either brand's focus.
Design Trip and Locus R.A.G.S.: Craft and Infrastructure Side by Side.
AI-first is not a requirement for all Zucol brands. Design Trip is a creative studio focused on branding, UI/UX design and frontend development, working to boost the conversion and retention of users through digital experiences for businesses. At the opposite end of the stack, Locus R.A.G.S. is the IT services division of Zucol, where software development, cloud management and digital consulting services are provided for enterprise and academic customers. It may seem odd to put a design studio and an infrastructure practice in the same company, but it's a reality: if a client requires an interface rebuilt, they also typically require the backend and the cloud work to support that, and when all three are in the same company, sharing standards and communication practices creates no friction between two separate vendors.
1) Tameda Realty and 2) The Discipline of Staying On-Brief.
The best example of this architecture is perhaps Zucol's real estate advisory firm called Tameda Realty. At the most basic level, real estate advice is not similar to AI voice platforms or academic software. Much like Ankush Tambi did at Zucol's first experience in technology, it's clear accountability: noting a real need or problem to be solved and cutting out the chatter for its own sake. While the brand is a separate entity in the market, it also shares the same organisational habits, reporting lines and culture of the other members of the group, which is people-first. A good indicator of any multibrand setup is that no matter what type of business the brand is in, the backbone they share should be sufficient for the brand to feel like it belongs to the family.
The Architecture and How It Holds Together.
The reason they all share a connective tissue is not that it's a shared logo or office; it's because it's a leadership approach that has been in place since the beginning of Zucol. Ankush Tambi has never been short of operating on the premise of trust over micromanagement, hiring for curiosity and hunger and treating people's investments as the growth factor of an organisation. Keeping that culture consistent across brands is not automatic, as there are over 700 people across Gurugram, Jaipur, Pune, Noida, Indore and Kolkata, and they have an international presence in the United Kingdom, Singapore and Dubai, which requires deliberate leadership. Building an ecosystem where teams within products as different as possible can still operate on shared principles of accountability, mentorship, and long-term thinking, where shared technology and separate identities are not mutually exclusive but can still thrive together – this is the real work behind Zucol's growth, as Ankush Tambi, the Founder, has often put it.
