Market Growth Factors

Vietnam's meat market is expected to grow with per capita income with rising consumption of varied types of meat, urbanization supporting more modern meat retail formats and convenience-oriented ready-to-eat meats. Consumption is also changing with awareness of health & nutrition. Lean proteins like poultry and beef are set to rise along with pork as consumers move toward protein-rich diets.

The foodservice industry creates meat product demand from fast food restaurants to online food delivery services. Consumers in urban areas, especially younger ones, prefer ready-to-cook meat products that require little or no time to prepare, which drives packaging, storage, and preservation techniques toward innovation.

The domestic meat processing sector benefited from international trade agreements and foreign direct investment, also from investment in the cold chain and the government's assistance to improve product safety and supply chain. International meat companies like Brazil's JBS and Japan's Sojitz Corporation are also expanding their presence and importing meat to build processing plants within the country.
