Path of Exile 2 loves throwing bosses at you that do not look like bosses, and Areagne, The Forgotten Witch, is one of those fights that quietly ruins your day while you are half asleep, counting loot and thinking about PoE 2 Currency instead of mechanics. She does not show up with a giant health bar or some dramatic cutscene, she just appears, starts slinging spells, and suddenly your character is face down on the floor. The danger with her is not raw numbers, it is the mix of cold damage, teleports, and the way the arena works, so if you wander in like it is just another pack of trash wolves you are going to get deleted fast.

Finding The Witch

You bump into Areagne out in Grelwood, roughly where you would expect Brambleghast to be on the opposite side. Head out to the far west edge of the zone and follow the riverbank until you spot a small, nasty looking hut tucked away in the trees. It is easy to sprint straight inside, but do not do that. Clear the werewolves around the front first, because if you drag them into the boss arena they will happily body block you while you are frozen and that is how runs end. Once the area is clean, step into the hut and you will see a woman crouched in the back like an NPC quest giver. Get close and she shrieks, vanishes, and that is your sign to spin around and get back outside before the real fight kicks off.

Arena And First Phase

The actual battle happens in the open space just outside the hovel, and that alone makes this encounter way more forgiving than it looks. You have loads of room to kite, reset, and drag her away from awkward terrain. As soon as you step out, she phases in and starts casting, and this is where people misread the fight. Visually she looks like a fire witch, but the serious damage is cold. Her Icy Breath hits in a line and can chunk you from full if your cold res is not capped, and it can freeze you in place at the worst possible moment. On top of that you get Ground Sigils popping up under your feet, little circles that pulse frost damage if you hang around too long. If you spot a huge ring of fire expanding from her, that is your warning: stop DPS, move sideways, and wait for the blast before you go back in.

Movement, Builds, And Common Mistakes

Areagne loves to teleport just off screen and then reappear right on top of you, so standing still and face tanking is basically asking to get clipped by breath and sigils at the same time. Ranged builds have a much easier time here; you can keep sliding backwards, drop skills while you move, and only stop when you are sure she is busy casting away from you. Melee can do it, but you have to play hit and run: two or three swings, then reposition. Most players burn through flasks trying to soak the cold damage, but that is the wrong approach. It is usually better to spend that brainpower on dodging and learning her tells, then see if your resists and life pool are actually good enough for the rest of the campaign.

Loot, Value, And Why It Is Worth It

When she finally goes down the drops are not going to flip your whole build, but the fight pays out better than it looks at first glance. You will see basic gear like Rope Cuffs and the usual Scrolls of Wisdom, but the real reason people keep farming her is the Uncut Support Gem that can drop. Early to mid game that gem sits in a sweet spot; you can level it yourself if it lines up with your main skill, or just throw it on the market and turn it into extra divine orbs for sale while everyone else is still figuring out their tree. It is a quick check on whether your resistances, flask setup, and movement are good enough, and if you fail, at least you learn it here instead of in some brutal high tier map where death actually hurts your progress.
