What Are the Key Differences Between KA02 Reports and CDRs?

The KA02 report and the CDR are two important papers that an engineer may face when they plan for professional recognition or migration. Although these are reports that focus on competencies, they have been designed for use with particular bodies using different methods of evaluation.  One can make a mistake in any of them and give poor results because they are all very similar.

Difference in Purpose and Assessment Authority

There is an important difference between the purposes of these reports and the authorities that assess them. An engineering competency assessment KA02 report is applicable in New Zealand. It is designed to show whether one has enough experience and knowledge as per the local engineering standards. This one focus the application of engineering knowledge and skills in practice.

The Australian skills assessment uses CDR to measure one's engineering skills, where individuals should prove their proficiency by using specific career episodes. These two types of reports evaluate engineering capabilities but they are meant for different evaluation authorities and are not replaceable of each other.

How is Content Structured in Each Report?

KA02 report is structured around the competencies that the candidate must demonstrate. You shall be compelled to answer certain competency questions and produce evidence that is directly related to each requirement. The text is more reflective and thus, knowledge application and professional judgement are more heavily stressed.

The structure of CDRs is such that they are written as stories. There are career episodes where engineers begin by giving an elaborate explanation of the projects before summarising them. Due to this difference, the ka02 report writing technique calls for a direct approach that is less descriptive than in CDR narratives but more focused on evidence and facts.

Writing Style and Level of Explanation

KA02 reports are severely limited in terms of only very specific and targeted explanations. One of the things that assessors look for is a clear demonstration of what you have done, how you have applied the engineering knowledge, and your achievements. They don't allow for extended background or organisational descriptions that are not directly related to the point.

In CDRs, there is some flexibility for including contextual information, e.g., about the nature of projects, and team environment, among others. The ka02 report writing service companies are known for working on explanations and removing irrelevant information so that they fit into the given requirements.
