U4GM How to Beat Torvian in Path of Exile 2
Torvian tends to stop people cold the first time they meet him in Act 4, mostly because this fight doesn't care how confident you felt five minutes earlier. If you've been farming PoE 2 Currency and hoping raw damage will carry the run, this is usually where that idea falls apart. He hits hard, sure, with a mix of physical and fire pressure, but that's not why players get stuck. The real issue is that the fight asks you to watch the room, not just the boss. Miss that, and you'll spend the whole encounter wondering why Torvian feels absurdly tanky and way more dangerous than he should.
What actually makes Torvian annoying
On paper, his kit looks manageable. He rushes, leaps, swings both axes, and punishes you if you drift too far away. Pretty normal stuff for Path of Exile 2. You can dodge most of it once you get the rhythm. What changes everything are the three priests set up around the arena on raised platforms. They keep feeding him buffs, and those buffs are no joke. One makes him tougher, another ramps his damage, and when all of them are active together, the fight feels awful. A lot of players waste time trying to brute-force through that phase. Doesn't work. If Torvian still has priest support, you're basically playing his game and losing slowly.
The boulder trick is the whole fight
This is the part plenty of people miss at first. You can't run over and kill the priests yourself, so the arena turns into a positioning test. Torvian will throw a huge boulder during the fight, usually after one of his heavier attack sequences. That's your moment. You need to line yourself up between him and one priest platform, then move at the last second so the boulder crashes into the structure instead of your face. Do it right, and that priest gets knocked out. Then you repeat the process on the next one, and then the third. It sounds simple written out like that, but in the actual fight it's messy. You'll panic, move too early, or dodge at the wrong angle. That's normal. After a few attempts, you start seeing the setup sooner.
Arena pressure and common mistakes
The fight gets rough because Torvian doesn't stand there politely while you solve the puzzle. He throws up walls that mess with your pathing and can ruin a clean bait line. There are also those slow-moving light storms drifting around, eating up space and forcing awkward movement. That's usually where runs fall apart. People tunnel on the platform, forget the arena hazard, then get clipped by an axe combo. Or they keep attacking when they should be dragging him into position. Honestly, patience matters more here than greed. Once one priest drops, the encounter already feels more reasonable. After the second, it starts to open up. By the time the third one is gone, you're finally fighting a boss instead of a rigged mechanic check.
Why the fight clicks after a few tries
What makes Torvian memorable is that the answer isn't hidden, it's just awkward until you settle into it. You stop reacting to the boss and start steering him. That's the shift. When the priests are removed, your damage finally matters, your dodges feel cleaner, and the whole fight loses that cheap feeling it has on a blind attempt. It's one of those Path of Exile 2 encounters that seems miserable right up until the moment it makes sense, and once it does, there's a good chance you'll walk away thinking less about the wipe count and more about the loot you'd like to turn into an exalted orb for the next build push.
